In the late 1970s, bored commercial pilot Barry Seal is recruited by the CIA to make reconnaissance flights to Central America. There, he is approached by a drug cartel for which he is supposed to pick up cocaine on the return flights. The business flourishes, Barry has to expand and is soon swimming in money. But of course this can't go on forever...
