In 1956, high school graduates Theo and Kurt from a small town in the GDR learn about the Hungarian uprising via Western media. They convince their class to show solidarity with the Hungarians fighting the Soviet army and to hold a minute's silence during class. But this has serious consequences for everyone, and even the Minister of Education comes to apprehend the ringleaders.
