Sometime in the near future, Teresa returns to her remote hometown of Bacurau in northeastern Brazil for her grandmother's funeral. Village life is lively there, although there is a water shortage and the village has to be supplied with a tanker truck. But then strange things start to happen and soon the first deaths occur.
