Brecha is a vivid and realistic portrayal of the emotional rupture between a father, André—recently released from prison—and his 12-year-old son, José, following a dark family tragedy that no one has the strength to confront. Also involved in the family affairs is the boy’s grandmother, who tries her best to normalise the lives of her grandson and his father. André’s inability to let go of the past, and José’s increasingly peculiar behaviour both lend to the nearly palpable tension. As the three family members try to mend relationships and reform their lives, the awkwardness and strain serve to only worsen the situation, leading them all to what could be disastrous.
