David, a shepherd from Bethlehem, is anointed as the new king of Israel by Samuel, the prophet of God. After David kills the Philistine Goliath and wins the sympathy of the people, he has to flee from the jealous Saul. Years later, he returns to Jerusalem and establishes his kingship. But there are also problems in his own family that challenge him.
