The successful playwright Louis returns home after 12 years to tell his family that he is terminally ill. He is met by his older brother Antoine, his younger sister Suzanne, his mother, who is completely excited about the visit, and Antoine's wife Catherine, whom Louis does not yet know. Old conflicts quickly erupt again.
