For Jack Russell terrier Max, his owner Katie, with whom he lives in Manhattan, is his everything. But one day she returns from the animal shelter with mongrel Duke. The two dogs can't stand each other and their quarrel leads to them ending up on the street. A gang led by rabbit Snowball is after them, but neighbor dog Gidget wants to save Max.
