The 'Nouvelle Vague' or the 'New Wave' is a French film movement of the late 1950s and early 1960s which defied the existent mode of filmmaking and proposed a new mode by making films concerning the present day problems in France, especially, of the young generation. Godard, Truffaut, Chabrol, Rivette, Rohmer, Resnais, Rouch, Marker, Varda, Malle, and Vadim were the exponents of this movement.
