The film is based on the novel by Charles Dickens and tells the story of David Copperfield. The boy is born in wealthy circumstances after the death of his father, but is forced by his stepfather to work in a bottle factory, where he has to live with an impoverished family. Meanwhile grown up, he tries to find his place in life.
