In 1969, Trinidadian-born Frank Crichlow opens the restaurant "The Mangrove" in London's Notting Hill district. It quickly becomes a meeting place for the community of Caribbean immigrants, opposed by a racist police force led by Constable Frank Pulley. After several attacks, the residents demonstrate against the police, but they are taken to court for sedition.
