Paul Harley kills his mistress, but the police only find a torso that cannot be identified. Captain Stottlemeyer has Commissioner Brooks after him, who fires Monk when Monk accidentally deletes all the old cases on a computer. Monk is desperate, and to make matters worse, Stottlemeyer's wife is filming the mishap-ridden investigation for a documentary.
