Plot

In the house of successful writer Sandra Voyter (Sandra Hüller) in the French Alps, a student comes to interview her. However, the interview soon has to be interrupted because Sandra's husband Samuel (Samuel Theis) is playing loud music from the attic. When their visually impaired son Daniel (Milo Machado Graner) returns from a walk with the dog, he finds Samuel dead in front of the house, from which he has apparently fallen.

The investigators are soon certain that it cannot be an accident, but only suicide or murder can be considered. Because only Sandra was nearby and a recording of an argument between Sandra and Samuel has emerged, she is charged. Sandra vehemently denies having killed her husband, even to her defense lawyer friend Vincent (Swann Arlaud). But in the course of the trial, details from their married life come to light which lead to the fact that not even eleven-year-old Daniel, who is also to testify, is sure that she is innocent.
