Story of two young men (Jean-Pierre Léaud, Pierre Clémenti) who break out of their social circumstances but fail in a macabre way: one falls for cannibalism in a desert and is himself thrown to the animals as punishment; the other harbors an affection for pigs and ends up as their victim. Allegory of Italian post-war youth.
