Alice has moved back to her late father's house in Los Angeles with her two daughters after separating from her husband. On her 40th birthday, she meets budding filmmakers Harry, Teddy and George at a bar. Harry is smitten with Alice and they all end up drunk at her house. Alice's mother persuades her to take the penniless three into her guest house.
