Trivia

  1. On August 1, 2016, a live video hosted by Apple Music appeared on Frank Ocean's website, boysdontcry.co, depicting a seemingly vacant warehouse. In the following weeks, the black-and-white video live-stream depicted Frank Ocean diligently working with wood and other materials to construct a spiral staircase, while sporadic loops of instrumental music played in the background. The video was revealed to be a promotion for Endless, a 46-minute visual album released exclusively on Apple Music, on August 19, 2016, only a day before the release of Frank Ocean's long-awaited album, Blonde (previously known as Boys Don't Cry).
  2. On Cyber Monday, November 27, 2017, a remastered, limited reissue of Endless in physical audio and visual formats was published by Blonded (Frank Ocean's record label), available for purchase on blonded.co, shipping in April 2018. The reissues included DVD and VHS editions of Endless, as well as CD and vinyl audio-only releases.
  3. Visual artist Tom Sachs, a contributor to Frank Ocean's Endless, was interviewed by Pitchfork in 2016, and said, “The 40-minute version is edited, but there's something like a 140-hour version. That's the whole thing. That exists, that's the art piece;” this fact is reiterated in the visual album's tagline, “46 minutes of 120 hours in the life of Frank Ocean.” Sachs continued with Pitchfork, “The spiral staircase is also an endless column, a reference to Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi's work.”
  4. Frank Ocean interacts with a large boombox in the back-right corner of the warehouse during the visual album. Tom Sachs assembled the 12' by 8' sound system, dubbed Toyan's Arsenal, in 2002 and lent the art piece to Ocean for the filming of Endless. The official album artwork includes a photograph of the headphone rack located on the left side of Toyan's Arsenal, and the title sequence contains iconography based on the wiring on the back side of the boombox.
