First episode of the British television series about the employees of the fictional Wernham Hogg Paper Company in Slough. David Brent is the department manager of the paper wholesale company and considers himself particularly competent in dealing with the employees. But even when they learn that staff are to be cut, he makes his jokes, which usually miss the mark.
