In the early 1960s in Montana: Margaret and George's ranch is home to their son James, daughter-in-law Lorna and newborn Jimmy. But James dies in an accident and Lorna remarries, to a man who beats her. Soon afterwards, the three of them disappear without a trace and Margaret sets off with George in search of their grandchild.
