Georgia “George” Lass (Ellen Muth), an 18 year old college drop-out looking for a stable job position, dies when she is hit by the toilet of the MIR space station. Once dead, she is introduced by Rube (Mandy Patinkin) to her new professional occupation: she will have to work as a Grim Reaper for an unknown time, before she is allowed into the other side.

The series follows George and a group of reapers in their daily encounters with death, as well as George's family acceptance of her death and, specifically, the effects it has on her sister's upbringing.
