Mr. Monk is at the fire station when someone sneaks into the building and, when noticed, kills a fireman and splashes acid in Monk's face. This causes him to go blind and he may never be able to see again. At first Monk is devastated and doesn't want to do anything any more, but then he tries to see the positive side of his blindness.
