Help:Searching

Search is an important tool for servicing omdb’s database. With the help of the search you get different information displayed – depending on your search query. What is new and very convenient about the omdb search is that all information can be found in just one search window. The search function does not distinguish between upper and lower case and automatically tries to find entries that are similar to the word entered. For example, if you just type “Lebows”, the search function will also show you the movie The Big Lebowski.

Sort search results

You can then sort the search results found according to certain categories. You have different options:

  • Popular results: The results are as close as possible to the search query, but sorted by the popularity of the respective hit. That is, if you type “Brad”, you will see the person “Brad Pitt” appear first, because Brad Pitt will have a high “demand” among all users. Which article is clicked on most often rises in the “Popular results” search display.
  • Movies, people, companies, encyclopedia: You can also have the search results sorted according to specific categories. At this point you get access to all information in omdb’s database. All you have to do is click on the respective tab and all entries in the corresponding category that match your search query will be displayed.
