Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States and a member of the Republican Party. He won the 1968 presidential election against Hubert H. Humphrey and was re-elected in 1972 (opponent: George McGovern). He initiated the withdrawal of the USA from the Vietnam conflict. He resigned from office on August 9, 1974 after the Watergate affair came to light.
