The wife of former commissioner Ashcombe drives her car off the road in the rain at night and plunges down a slope. Some time later, psychic Dolly Flint wakes up in her car and finds the wreckage half buried by a mudslide. Monk is certain that Ashcombe killed his wife and gave the psychic money.
