Mr. Monk and Natalie are at a play in which Natalie's daughter Julie is also taking part. Critic John Hannigan is also in the audience, but to Natalie's great outrage he writes a scathing review of Julie's performance. When a murdered woman is found nearby and Natalie thinks she smells Hannigan's aftershave, she is convinced that he is the killer.
